Game Concept
FatesDawn is designed to be a system run by players for players. Though it will be run as weekend events by Wyvernstales regularly, it has been put together in such a way that once you have attended an event you are supported and encouraged to run your own. (Groups which do this are called “Settlements” for the purposes of the game and have there own nobility, groups, plot etc.)

The system is dark, with combat being dangerous and death a regular fear, however it is also designed for people to play non-combatants, with an in-depth political and financial system that is fluid enough to be constantly changing to the whims of the players, but simple enough to be easily understood.

We aim to keep the game as inexpensive as possible but with as much input and props as we can muster.

Game Mechanics
The Game runs around the idea of two constantly fluctuating variables: Hero Points – This is a regulator for skills, (both buying and using) and bleed out time during combat. These are gained by putting more time and effort into the game and its world and lost through use of skills and buying skills.

Social Rank – This is a measure of your standing in society, it is a highly fluid number that can be changed by alliance to other players, being voted into a position of nobility, or simply voted up or down by other player characters. The higher your Social Rank the more money your Homesteads gain you, however all players must pay upkeep of the value of there Social Rank, so people without land will be constantly looking for employment.

Game World & Plot
The World this system is set in is fantasy dark age, originally based loosely upon the roman’s initial contact with Britain with a massive addition of Celtic mythology. Since then the game has shifted emphasis with the changing wish’s of the players, becoming more magical, and emphasising the battle of the people of Fenrik (the equivalent of England) and there allies both human and other against the machinations of the Fomorie.

The People
The Fenn: Based upon the Celts these are the locals of Fenrik, recent history has not been kind to them, but they are the largest player group.

The Arkans: Loosely based upon Christian Era Romans, these are settlers in Fenrik, citizens trying to make a new life across the sea in the far corner of the empire.

The Vik: Broadly using Saxon/Viking society/mythology as a basis, these are opportunist expansionists.

The Mourne: Nature spirits dedicated to protecting the earth and there home, they see themselves as the oldest of race’s and as such the natural inheritors of Fenrik. A view not always shared by the other races.

The Fomorie: Cursed NPC sea demons, dark shape shifters blessed and cursed by Baylor there dark father. There constant pain and old pact with the Wyrm drive them to constantly try to destroy the world so that they can at last die.

So What Now?
The Game is expanding, we are running two games this year and are looking to run another next year in summer, if you are interested, either in joining us and finding out more about Fenrik and it’s constant struggle both within its various factions or against the Fomorie then check out our website at: http://www.freewebs.com/fatesdawnlrp/index.htm

We talk to Joe Rooney of Insurrection LRP

Hi Joe, I wonder if you can start by telling us how long you have been involved in LRP?
Joe: I started LRPing in October 1992, so almost 16 years, pretty much solidly.

What kind of events attract you as a player?
I tend to prefer smaller events, say up to 100 players max, to much larger fest events.  There needs to be a real risk of character death, and there needs to be clear consequences to my actions – if my character screws something up, I want to have to really work to escape one form of doom or another.  Aside from that, I’m more into fantasy than other genres, and I’m a sucker for orcs.
